Home!

"I'm gonna make this place my home"~Phil Phillips

The Steigerwald home has been extremely busy since we last spoke.  We are such bad bloggers. :( It has been a long time as we have had our plates full with purchasing our first house.  Our summer has been packed with the joys of packing and unpacking.  Although the house is no where near where we want, it is coming along.  We are so excited to share this journey with everyone.  Please enjoy the pre-pictures of our house from the realtor's website.

This home looks like a Ranch Rambler on the Front,
but actually is a tri-level split. Down the stairs is our family room.
Can not wait to use that fireplace in the winter.

We will be using it as our playroom.
Travel up the stairs and you come the Bedroom #1.

and that's our home! Changes are abreast.  We hope they inspire you as we DIY! :)

2000 Calories?

Dear hubby found this video and wanted to share it with you all.  Hah, I have got him thinking healthy.  :) He found it enlightening. Do you find it surprising? Some of the info is duh, but others were surprising for us.

Veggilicious Pasta Sauce

Looking for ways to add veggies to our diet, I found and adapted this recipe from Jamie Oliver. Use it for any recipe that requires pasta sauce.  Works nicely in casseroles!

Enjoy!

2013 Spring Break

Hello Spring or should I say Hello Winter.  I can feel spring right around the corner, we are on spring break, and yet we are living in blanket forts watching Christmas movies.

Health Challenge Update

Unfortunately, I did not meet my goals last week.  They are still a challenge for me this week and I will continue the challenge.  Giving up is not in my vocabulary.  I did on average drink 2 20 oz. bottles of water each day.  I exercised 4 days in a row last week, but felt I didn't give my 100% effort.  Being on spring break this week will allow me the time to get this settled and get my body adjusted to the new routine.  I am continuing to find many more clean eating recipes that add more veggies and fruits to our diets.  Take a look at this gem I created...introducing the Wake Up Smoothie!!!

Click here to see the nutritional facts for this recipe on Map my Fitness.  If you haven't explored Map my Fitness yet, you are in for a treat.  I use it to track my calorie counts under the pseduo name Queen Scarlet.

Parchment Citrus Salmon

I love finding healthy meals that are made of whole, natural, and organic foods.  Salmon is a must have in our family for its essential Omega 3 Fatty Acids.  Omega 3 fatty acids regulate heart rhythm, decrease blood clotting, dilate your blood vessels, decrease your blood pressure and triglycerides, and fight an inflammation   A must for a healthy heart! Pair this with fresh broccoli and a long grain brown wild rice and you have a complete meal.  May also shred salmon from skin and add it to your favorite greens.  Yum!!!!

Health Challenge Day 1

This new job has been kicking my butt!  When you have to wake up at 4 am and drive 1 hour to work, exercise goes out the window.  Due to time constraints my body has become a fast food junkie addicted to soda and I crave it all the time.  I am determined to break this addiction and lose the weight that my addiction has added onto me.  I am determined to be an example for health with my family.  Goal is to lose 20 pounds (I am starting at 130 pounds at 5 feet) and you dear readers get a ring-side seat.  I am more apt to stick with it if I have an audience! What a great job you have.

Week 1 goals: (many based on the mini pledges from 100 Days of Real Food)

1. Eat 2 Fruits and/or Vegetables with each meal

This will be difficult as I call myself "vegtablic," a condition in which I struggle swallowing veggies.  I am going to need to be sneaky with the vegetables and I already found one way to be sneaky... Vegetable Infused Pasta Sauce. Thanks Jamie Oliver and Kerryann.

2. Increase water intake to 3 20 oz. bottles.

I refuse to use plastic, BPA filled water bottles.  In comes the stainless steel.  I have used the stainless water bottle for quite some time, but they have become ratty.  To inspire me, I will buy 2 new water bottles. Whenever we have something new, we want to use it right away.  This is key to kicking my Soda addiction.

3.  Exercise 5 times this week.

There are several resources on which I heavily rely.  One of which is the insanity program.  Today I completed Insanity Day 1 "Cardio Pylometric" 40 minute workout.  I took more breaks then I would have liked, but I did not quit and that is the important part.  I wanted to quit near the end, but I kept with my goal in my mind.  The picture of health I want to be for my husband and son.
